A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested after two teenagers appeared in court following the assault of a man in Paisley.

Emergency services were called to reports of a man being seriously injured on George Street at around 8pm on Monday.

The 53-year-old was taken to hospital where his condition was described as serious but stable.

A number of roads were closed, including George Street at Barr Place, Lady Lane at Argyle Street and Castle Street at Argyle Street, with diversions in place.

An 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court following the incident.

Aimee Clarke, from Paisley, has been charged with assault to injury and danger of life and a count of theft. She made no plea.

Alfie Jones, from Renfrewshire, has been charged with one count of assault to injury and danger of life and also made no plea.

Both were granted bail, and their next appearance has not been confirmed.

On Thursday evening, police confirmed a third person, a 21-year-old man, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Friday.
