Suspects accused of 'trying to remove man's toe in murder bid'

Four suspects have been accused of a two-day abduction and murder bid of a man – which included trying to remove his toe.

The alleged victim is said to have been bundled into a motor and taken from a car park in Glasgow’s Shawlands to a house in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire.

The offence is said to have occurred between September 28 and 30 last year.

It is claimed the man was kept in a cupboard and deprived of food, water and going to the toilet.

The indictment alleges he was physically assaulted including being punched, kicked, smacked with a baseball bat and having a ligature put around his neck.

The men are also said to have placed “bags of ice cubes in his underwear”.

It is also claimed plastic bags were taped over his head and that there was “an attempt to remove his toe with an unknown implement”.

The charge further states an “unknown corrosive substance” was repeatedly poured into the man’s mouth.

It is alleged he was then robbed of a mobile phone and a sum of money.

Salar Razei, 42, of Maryhill, Glasgow, Afshin Moghayer, 49, of Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire, Ismail Araby, 25, of Parkhead, Glasgow, and Mohammed Karim, 23, of the city’s Easterhouse, face the charge of abduction and attempted murder.

Razei, Araby and Karim are separately accused of an allegation under the Firearms Act. Karim alone faces a further assault charge.

Lawyers for Razei, Moghayer and Karim pleaded not guilty for each of them during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday.

A warrant was granted for the arrest of Araby after it emerged his legal team had not heard from him.

The hearing was adjourned until next month.
