SWG3 cancels music event following death of teenager after New Year's Day rave at Glasgow venue

A Glasgow venue has cancelled a music event due to take place this weekend after a teenager died following a New Year’s Day rave.

Police confirmed that they received reports that an 18-year-old woman had fallen unwell while attending a rave at SWG3 on New Year’s Day.

A spokesperson for the club said medical staff at the Glasgow venue had examined her after noticing she was in distress.

An ambulance was called and she was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but later died.

Now the venue in Glasgow’s west end has confirmed that its B2B event will no longer be going ahead on Saturday.

A spokesperson for SWG3 said that they were working to reschedule the show but refunds were available from the point of purchase for people who can no longer attend.

“In light of the recent tragic events at SWG3 this week, B2B will no longer be going ahead on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

“We are currently working to reschedule this show.

“Original tickets will be valid for the new date, and refunds are available from point of purchase for those who can no longer attend,” they said.

A spokesperson for SWG3 previously described the event as “tragic” and offered its condolence to the family of the young woman who lost her life.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware on Friday that a woman had become unwell at a premises on Eastvale Place, Glasgow on Tuesday, January 2.

“An 18-year-old was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

“Next of kin have been informed and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
