Tantrum Doughnuts left empty due to UCI World Cycling Championship road closures in Glasgow

A doughnut shop in Glasgow city centre has been unable to open for business due to road closures amid the UCI World Cycling Championships.

Routes across the city have been restricted to allow road events taking place across the contest, which will run until August 13.

Tantrum Doughnuts, in the heart of Glasgow, said on Friday that it had been promised business access to drop off the fried delights early in the morning.

However, staff waited for around three hours trying to get in – but to no availl.

They were unable to get “even remotely close” to the Gordon Street shop, a statement on social media said.

“We’re trying to figure out what to over the next week as we are devastated – this was going to be a busy and exciting week for the City Centre,” it read.

However, the dessert chain’s West End and South Side shops remain open and will be offering 25% off on purchases of six or more doughnuts throughout Friday.

One of the world’s biggest and most important cycling competitions, the UCI World Cycling Championships will see around 8,000 of the world’s best cyclists compete across 13 contests in the ultimate tests of talent, tenacity and toughness.

The championships kicked off with a grand opening ceremony in Glasgow on Wednesday, and will run through ten days, ending on August 13.

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused this morning, and have been in contact with the sub-contractors to reiterate the timings for the road closures and when barriers should be in place.”
