A teacher has been struck off after hitting a pupil during a tutoring session in her home.

Alexander McLean was convicted in November 2023 at Hamilton Sheriff Court of assaulting the female student

The maths and physics teacher had gone to the pupil’s home after she had received a “disappointing” prelim result to provide extra support.

When McLean found out about the prelim result he said he “…could have skelped her up her a***”.

During the tutoring session, he struck the pupil on the body after she gave the wrong answer to a question.

When contacted by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) in October 2024, McLean stated he did not wish to teach again or be involved in the investigation.

He said: “Remove me from the teaching Register as I have no desire to ever teach again. This will be my final correspondence with you and the GTCS and further communications will be ignored.”

The council found that McLean “had fallen significantly short of the standards expected, was fundamentally incompatible with being a registered teacher, and that he was unfit to teach”.

A consent order was issued and McLean was struck off on November 4, 2024. He is barred from re-applying to the profession for two years.
