A teenager has been arrested, and two people have been injured in a fire at a high-rise block of flats in Whifflet.
Over 50 firefighters were sent to Calder Court after the blaze broke out within the flats around 6.45am on Friday.
Fire crews from 12 appliances, including specialist vehicles, were sent to the scene.
Images show a number of flats on fire with residents being evacuated outside the entrance.
Police Scotland has confirmed a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with enquiries ongoing.
Two casualties were transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
One eyewitness told STV News the alarm was raised by staff from CCG Construction at a site on nearby School Street at around 6.30am.
The construction firm opened up its canteen on Friday morning to allow residents to shelter.
A Police Scotland statement read: “Calder Street in Coatbridge is closed due to a fire at a block of flats which was reported to us around 6.50am on Friday, December 19, 2025.
“Emergency services are in attendance, and the public is asked to avoid the area.
“A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.45am on Friday, December 19, to reports of a flat on fire at Calder Court in Calder Street, Coatbridge.
“Operations Control mobilised 11 fire appliances and one height vehicle, and firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a flat within a multi-storey building.
“Two casualties are in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service, and crews are currently still at the scene.”
