A teenager has died at the scene of a crash involving an e-scooter and an ambulance in North Ayrshire.

Officers were called to the collision on the A78 around 2.35am on Monday on the southbound carriageway between the Pennyburn Roundabout and the B779 junction at Kilwinning.

The 19-year-old male rider of the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one from the ambulance was injured.

The road was closed until around 8.45am and has since fully reopened, police said.

Sergeant Jim Dewar said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died and everyone affected by this crash.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information or who may have dashcam footage from around the time to get in touch.

“If you can help, please call 101, quoting reference 0324 of July 28, 2025.”
