A teenager had to be taken to hospital after being assaulted by a gang in Glasgow city centre.

The 17-year-old boy was on Sauchiehall Street, near to its junction with Hope Street, around 2.30am on Sunday when he was approached by a group of men and women aged around 18 and 20.

The teenager was assaulted by the group who ran off in the direction of Buchanan Street.

Emergency services were called and the injured teen was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment and later released.

Police are now looking to trace the suspects.

One of the men was described as 6ft and was wearing a Nike tracksuit, with the other man wearing a grey jacket with a white Palm Angels T-shirt.

The force described the group as white and with local accents.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detective constable Matthew McCann said: “We are appealing to any members of the public who were in the area at the time of the incident who can help with our ongoing enquiries.

“If you saw what happened, know those involved or where they went, then please get in touch.

“Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0481 of Sunday, May 5, 2024, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
