Teenage pedestrian injured after being struck by car

Police are looking to speak to the driver of a car who was involved in a crash on Saturday morning.

A teenage boy has been left injured after being struck by car in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident took place on Benhar Road, Shotts and involved two cars, a blue Volkswagen Polo and another which left the scene after the crash.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 2.50am and the 17-year-old pedestrian was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Police are now looking for witnesses and particularly want to trace the driver of the second car who they say may not know they were involved in a significant incident.

Sergeant Simon Reilly, from Motherwell Road Policing, said: “We are asking for anyone who witnessed the crash, or was driving through the area around the time, to come forward with any information they have, which could help our enquiries.

“We know that there was a second car and that it left the scene, but it is possible that the driver may not even know they were involved in anything. That is why we are keen for anyone who was driving in the area at the time to call us.”
