A man is fighting for his life after an alleged street attack in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to Farmeloan Road in Rutherglen shortly after midnight on Thursday after a man was found seriously injured.

The 51-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where his condition is described as critical. 

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged serious assault. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called around 12.05am on Thursday October 21 2021, following a report a man had been seriously assaulted in Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen. 

“Emergency services attended and a 51-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as critical.  

“An 18-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
