A teenager has been charged in connection with a hoax bomb threat to a school in Glasgow which forced pupils to be evacuated.

Youngsters at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Primary in Knightswood were ushered out of classrooms at 12.10pm on Wednesday, May 11 before specialist explosives experts arrived to scour the area for devices.

A second school, St Thomas Aquinas Secondary in Broomhill, was evacuated 24 hours later – disrupting a Nat 5 English exam – following another “malicious and threatening” call.

In both instances, students later returned to lessons once the building was judged to be safe, but police launched a probe to trace the person responsible.

A 14-year-old boy has now been charged over the Corpus Christi incident, while officers insist they are following “positive lines of enquiry” into the second call.

Chief inspector Paul Douglas said: “We takes hoax calls extremely seriously and will exhaust all avenues in tracing those responsible.

“They divert police resources and cause considerable disruption and alarm to the general public.”
