SNS GroupA teenager who stabbed a boy has been jailed for almost five years.
Harvey Hogg attacked the 17-year-old following a confrontation in Caledonian Street, Paisley on July 14 2023.
The 19-year-old left his victim suffering from a lifelong mobility issue after the attack.
Hogg had been convicted after a trial in Paisley of assaulting the boy to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment as well as to the danger of his life.
Jurors concluded he had been acting under provocation at the time.
Hogg, also of Paisley, had initially faced an attempted murder accusation.
Judge Bruce Erroch KC sentenced him to four years and eight months at the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday.
He told Hogg: “You encountered your victim. He was seen running towards you, swinging a baseball bat.
“During a struggle, you stabbed him several times. You chose to go out that day armed with a knife, so there was a degree of planning involved.
“You inflicted two stab wounds on the abdomen and the left groin.
“The injuries were to the danger of his life. He has suffered from a permanently dropped foot.”
Referring to the guidelines for the sentencing of young people, Judge Erroch said the term would have been greater had Hogg been older.
Bob Mitchell, defending, told the court Hogg has “not found custody easy” since being remanded.
He had been subject to a curfew lasting two years prior to standing trial.
