Thousands raised after dad-of-two killed in ambulance crash in Oban

Thousands of pounds has been raised in support of the family of a dad-of-two who died after being hit by an ambulance.

Robert Bromell was knocked down on Corran Esplanade on the A85 in Oban on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 6.

The 39-year-old, known to family and friends as Hogan, was taken to Lorn and Islands Hospital but died a day later.

The family of Mr Bromell, from Coventry, has launched an appeal to cover the costs of the funeral and bring his body back to England.

More than £2,300 has been raised to support the father-of-two’s family so far.

The Go Fund Me page, set up in his honour, reads: “Our family started trying to piece together these tragic events and how this accident could have happened.”

It added: “Anyone who knew Hogan would tell you what a character he was. Full of life and laughter, always smiling and forever making everyone around him laugh. He was a loving father of two boys, Kaiden and Kai. And loved his siblings and family very much.

“As you can imagine this is impacting the family massively. We are all heartbroken and shocked. However, with grief and loss there also comes the financial burden of having to organise not only his funeral but also of the transportation of Hogan’s body.”

Police confirmed on Saturday that a 20-year-old man had been charged in connection with his death.

He is due to appear before Oban Sheriff Court on Monday.
