Thousands of people are expected to take part in Orange Walk marches across Glasgow this weekend.

Around 3,500 participants will converge on Glasgow Green as around 50 parades take place for the annual County Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow Boyne celebration.

The individual feeder parades start at various points around the city before four groups, from the north, west, east and south, will merge in the city centre.

The organisation holds more than 1,000 marches across Scotland each year.

As a result of the procession, almost 30 roads in Glasgow will be closed between 5am to 4pm on Saturday.

Police Scotland will be on patrol throughout the city after previous marches saw arrests and anti-social behaviour.

Chief superintendent Stevie Dolan said: “Police Scotland is not responsible for decisions on marches.

“We are committed to supporting the rights of individuals and groups who wish to assemble, balanced against the rights of the wider community and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

“Our policing operation will be proportionate and focussed on public safety, as well as doing all we can to minimise disruption to the wider community.”

Glasgow City Council have been contacted for comment.
