Three people have been convicted of the murder of a grandfather who was brutally attacked in his Glasgow flat.
Maria Gardiner, Michael Anderson and James Houston were all found guilty in the murder of Brian Maley following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
The court heard that the 52-year-old was subjected to a brutal ordeal on February 8, 2022, including being stabbed with a knife and chisel.
The three killers were also convicted of assaulting a woman at the flat the same morning.
The jury was shown photos of the flat after the “brutal” attack of Mr Maley and the female victim.
The three killers were spotted on CCTV walking with a toolbox from Govan to Mr Maley’s Springburn flat.
Gardiner, 47, and Houston, 35, were arrested at the Premier Inn in the city’s Charing Cross after the killing.
In his evidence, Houston told his KC Murray Macara: “I am sorry to the family. I never knew that someone was going to be assaulted, knifed or murdered.”
Houston later alleged that Anderson had gone there to “collect something” adding that he was just an “innocent bystander” in the situation.
He was questioned about a text he sent Anderson before the murder stating: “When we fighting with c***s”.
Houston claimed that the message was “fake bravado”.
All three have been remanded in custody and each face a life sentence when they return to the dock in March.
Following the guilty verdict, prosecutor Michael Macintosh said: “Brian Maley was a father and grandfather.
“He is survived by three adult daughters – two who have attended the trial each day.
“He is also survived by six grandchildren. The youngest was born just before this trial commenced.
“He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandson at the time.”
Sentencing was adjourned for reports.
