A major train line has been closed after a lorry crashed into a railway bridge in Dumfries.

Network Rail confirmed that a lorry had struck the crossing on Brooms Road at around 9.45am on Tuesday.

ScotRail said all lines between Dumfries and Carlisle were closed while inspections for damage are carried out.

Services from Glasgow Central to Carlisle via Dumfries are subject to delays, alterations and cancellations.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

Due to very limited replacement road transport being secured, passengers have been advised to consider making their own arrangements, ScotRail said.

“Customers with valid tickets can travel via any reasonable route,” a spokesperson said.
