Rail services in Glasgow have been disrupted after a lorry struck a bridge in East Renfrewshire.

Services between Glasgow Central and Neilston have been terminated, and all trains between Cathcart and Neilston have been cancelled after the vehicle collided with the structure in Williamwood on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the incident. It is unknown at this stage if anyone has been injured in the collision.

A Network Rail response team is at the scene to inspect the bridge for any damage.

A ScotRail post read: “Due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge at Williamwood all lines are closed.

“Train services between Glasgow Central and Neilston will be terminated at and started back from Cathcart. All stations between Cathcart and Neilston will not be served.”

Network Rail Scotland said: “Frustratingly we’ve another incident this morning. A lorry has struck a bridge at Williamwood, so we’ve had to close the line until the bridge has been examined.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience this will cause.”
