A number of train services towards Glasgow Central have been cancelled due to damaged overhead wires.

ScotRail has warned that disruption to services from Neilston, Newton, Barrhead, Kilmarnock and East Kilbride to Glasgow Central could last until 5pm on Friday.

Passengers on all routes are being urged to make their own travel arrangements after replacement buses could not be secured.

Trains stopped on the track due to damage caused by the fault are now on their way back to Glasgow Central.

Network Rail is now working with ScotRail to move one damaged train before engineers can begin repairing the overhead wires.

Images from the affected area in Muirhouse show overhead wires dangling down alongside the track near a stationary train near Pollokshields East station.

They said on X: “This is a cantilever, which holds the overhead wires in position. Three of these have been damaged and need to be repaired before it’s safe to run trains again.”

They added: “Good news – all affected passengers are now on their way to Glasgow Central.

“The next task for us is to move a damaged train from the area where the overhead wires are damaged.”
