Network Rail is dealing with two major incidents affecting trains to and from Glasgow.
The network operator confirmed they were made aware of damage to overhead cables just after 2pm on Thursday between Paisley St James and Bishopton.
This has resulted in the closure of the Inverclyde line, which has caused disruption to services between Glasgow and Gourock/Wemyss Bay.
Network Rail confirmed a train had been involved and said: “With the level of damage to the overhead wires near Bishopton and Paisley St James, we don’t expect ScotRail services to run on the Inverclyde lines this evening, with repairs being carried out overnight.”
Journeys between Glasgow and Carlisle have also been disrupted after a lorry crashed into a railway bridge near Kilmarnock.
Network Rail said: “We’re responding to reports of an HGV striking a bridge carrying the railway between Kilmarnock and Mauchline over the A77.
“The railway has been closed until our engineers arrive and can inspect the structure for any damage.”
Passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling.
