Five people were killed in the crash involving a Skoda and a Toyota at 4.04pm on Tuesday on the motorway heading north past Tebay Services.

A 42-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman who died have been named as Jaroslaw Rossa and Jade McEnroe from Glasgow.

Two boys aged 15 and seven, also from Glasgow and were travelling in the Toyota, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A second seven-year-old boy, who was in the Toyota, was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where he remains in a serious condition.

The 40-year-old male driver of the Skoda, from Cambridgeshire, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cumbria Police investigating the collision said one vehicle involved in the crash may have been travelling the wrong way after officers received reports of a Skoda travelling southbound on the northbound carriage.

The Gin Spa in Glasgow, where Ms McEnroe worked, paid tribute to her on social media.
