Music fans bound for TRNSMT have been offered a free drink at six Glasgow pubs thanks to one of the festival’s performers.

Beautiful South singer Paul Heaton has put money behind the bar at a number of locations dotted around the showcase’s Glasgow Green home in an effort to beat the “cost of greed crisis”.

The 61-year-old, who will perform on the main stage on Friday alongside an as-yet-unannounced special guest, said the gesture was a “thank you” for those turning out to support live music.

He wrote on Twitter: “Glasgow, as a thank you, and a small amount of help during the cost of greed crisis, I’m leaving some money behind the bar at a few local pubs near to TRNSMT festival so that some of you can have a drink on him tomorrow afternoon (until the money runs out or the bar runs dry!)!”

Heaton previously paid £60,000 to buy fans a drink at pubs across the UK to celebrate his 60th birthday last year.

Ezra will take to the stage on Friday, the same day as One Direction’s Horan, who will be making his TRNSMT debut.

Meanwhile, Fender will play on Saturday in what will be his fourth year performing at TRNSMT.
