Emergency services were called to a fire in a first-floor flat within a four-storey building on Hughenden Lane in Hyndland at around 10.20pm on Monday.

A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin have been made aware.

Five people were taken to hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation, police said.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent nine fire appliances and a high-reach appliance to the scene.

All properties were evacuated and firefighters rescued a number of residents from the building.

Crews left the scene at 4.53pm on Tuesday after extinguishing the fire and preventing further spread to other properties.

Five ambulances, a paramedic response unit and two trauma teams from the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended.

Two patients were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and three patients to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious, and no criminality has been established.

Area Commander Andy Kenna, SFRS’s Local Senior Officer for Glasgow, said: “Operations Control mobilised nine fire appliances and a high reach appliance to the scene.

“All properties were evacuated, and firefighters rescued a number of residents from the building. Multiple casualties were taken into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
