Two dogs have died after being left in a car during hot weather.
Police were called by concerned members of the public after the pets were seen in a vehicle in Linwood, Paisley, in Renfrewshire, around 1.05pm on Thursday.
The Maltese and an Alsatian Lurcher cross were seen to be in distress due to the heat.
Officers gained access to the car and took the two dogs to a local vet, however, both were found to be dead on arrival.
A 53-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “With the hot weather set to continue, police are urging people to follow the Scottish SPCA guidance on dog care in the summer: https://orlo.uk/A9eMD.”
Scotland is set to experience its first heatwave of the summer as temperatures climb across the UK.
Large parts of the west of the country are expected to reach highs of 30C amid warnings for people to take care in the heat.
