Two due in court over murder bid which left man fighting for life

The men who were arrested following the incident have both now been charged, police confirmed.

Two men have been charged in connection with a murder bid that left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

Police were called to a flat in Maxwellton Street in the town at around 5.30pm on Sunday July 23 and found a 26-year-old man seriously injured.

He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries.

Two men, aged 24 and 25, were arrested following the incident and police confirmed that they have both now been charged.

The men are expected to appear at court on Tuesday, July 25.

Detective inspector Nicola Wake said: “We would like to thank the public for their assistance with our enquiries, following our earlier appeal.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and I’d encourage anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken to police to get in touch by calling 101, quoting incident 2647 of Sunday, July 23, 2023.”
