Two Glasgow schoolboys have been taken to hospital after a group allegedly threw fireworks at each other on Thursday.

The Royal Navy bomb squad and emergency services are currently on Dixon Avenue in the Govanhill area.

People have been asked to avoid the street with a wide cordon closing off Dix Avenue at Cathcart Road, Gartuke Street and Allison Street at Belleisle Street.

Two pupils from Holyrood Secondary School were injured during the incident and have been taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

An eyewitness told STV News that there was a group of young teenage boys “launching fireworks” on the street.

Three ambulances were in attendance and blood was seen on the road.

Police Scotland said enquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

A council spokeswoman said: “We’re aware of an incident that took place out with the school premises this afternoon.

“As a result of the incident, two pupils were injured and have been taken to hospital for assessment.

“We are working with the appropriate authorities as enquiries continue.”
