Two women were taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash closed a road in Ayr for seven hours.
Emergency services shut down the A77, between Holmston and Bankfield Roundabout, after a crash involving a green Citroen C4 Cactus, a grey Volkswagon Tiguan, a white Mercedes HGV and a white Ford Fiesta van at around 5.10pm on Wednesday.
A 30-year-old woman, the driver of the Citroen, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where her condition is described as serious but stable.
The driver of the Volkswagon, a 49-year-old woman, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment.
No one else was injured and the road later reopened at midnight.
Police are seeking witnesses or dash-cam footage into the crash.
Constable Stewart Carden said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and we are asking anyone who can assist to get in touch.
“If you were in the area at the time and can help or have dash-cam footage that has captured useful information then please make contact with officers.”
Anyone who can assist I asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2528 of Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
