Two men have been charged after a firearm and ammunition were discovered in a car near Lockerbie.
Police say officers acting on intelligence stopped the vehicle on the M74 around 7.55pm on Friday.
Two men, aged 35 and 39, were arrested and charged in connection and are due to appear before Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday, June 1.
Detective Superintendent Steven Elliott said: “Firearms clearly cause risk and harm to our communities, and this recovery sends a clear message to those involved that we will not tolerate their illegal activities.
“We remain absolutely committed to tackling serious and organised crime and information from the public is vital to this work.
“I’d urge anyone who has concerns or information regarding serious and organised crime in their community to contact Police via 101 or CRIMESTOPPERS anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
