Two people rescued after motorboat springs a leak

Two people were saved from a sinking motorboat after it sprung a leak.

Oban RNLI was alerted to the emergency near Lismore Lighthouse in the Inner Hebrides at around 2.10pm on Sunday.

Those on board raised the alarm with the Coastguard after the 16ft vessel began to take on water.

The volunteer crew of Mora Edith MacDonald arrived to find that the pair on board had taken the decision to stay close to shore in case the boat sank.

They were then taken onto the lifeboat, while their own boat was towed.

An Oban RNLI spokesperson said: “The lifeboat continued the tow into Dunstaffnage Marina where the boat was taken onto the slipway, enabling the owner to have it lifted to assess the damage.

“The two persons on board were transferred ashore.”

The rescue team thereafter returned to base and made the lifeboat ready for its next service by 5.15pm.
