Two women have appeared in court following the death of a man whose body was found “burnt” in an Inverclyde field.
Police were called after Robert Best’s body was found in a field near High Mathernock Farm in Kilmacolm around 9.20am on November 11.
Mr Best had been reported missing from Greenock on the same day.
Dorothy Shields, 64, and Nicola Brisland, 41, both of Port Glasgow, appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
The pair were charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice. They made no plea and were granted bail. Their next appearance is yet to be confirmed.
It comes after two men were charged with murdering Mr Best.
Andrew Brodie, 51, and Stephen Shields, 44, are alleged to have stabbed the 50-year-old to death at Shields’ flat on Lansbury Street on November 10.
They are accused of removing the man’s body in a rug and taking it to a field where they “attempted to set fire to it”.
The pair appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday, November 13. They made no plea and were remanded in custody.
Two other men, aged 41 and 45, were previously arrested in connection and have been released pending further enquiries.
