UK's first Apple store union in Scotland wins pay rise for staff

The Apple Retail Workers Union announced on Thursday night that members voted to reject Apple’s pay model.

Workers at Glasgow’s Apple store, who made history as the first employees of the tech giant in the UK to secure union recognition, have negotiated a pay deal for its staff members.

The Apple Retail Workers Union announced on Thursday night that members voted to reject Apple’s pay model.

The union, which organises with GMB, added that staff had “won minimum increases and compensation for all members of staff, as well as improved pay for the majority of staff with most receiving 7%.”

The union added: “This is in line with public sector increases. Apple wanted to offer no increased compensation for some staff and the union has been able to prevent that.”

In November, staff members secured union recognition after a majority of two-thirds support for recognition in a statutory ballot from the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS), the GMB union said.
