Uniqlo has submitted plans for its second Scottish store.
The Japanese retailer has chosen the St Enoch Centre in Glasgow as its second location in the country, with the store reportedly spanning 22,500 square feet.
The new store will take over two large retail unit spaces, including the former home of the St Enoch Picture Theatre, and will have a 44-meter frontage between the entrance to the shopping centre and H&M.
According to the plans, it will cover two floors.
Glasgow City Council has given the green light for the store’s various illuminated and non-illuminated signage.
Uniqlo opened its first store in Scotland on Edinburgh’s Princes Street earlier this year.
Hundreds lined the streets outside the store ahead of the launch, and the first 100 through the door were offered a free goodie bag.
The company’s chief operating officer previously told STV News that they select locations that have “very deep heritage” and impressive architecture.
Richard Muir, deputy chief executive for Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “Glasgow is a dynamic, attractive destination for leading retail and leisure brands.
“The arrival of Uniqlo marks a major win for the city centre, reinforcing Glasgow’s appeal to global retailers and underscoring its reputation as a key shopping hub in the UK.
“This addition will not only strengthen the city’s retail offer but will also improve the local economy by creating jobs, increasing footfall and consumer spending, and supporting other businesses. We look forward to learning more about the plans to open the new store.”
Uniqlo said it was unable to comment.
