United Airlines has launched daily direct flights between Glasgow and New York, seven years after last servicing the route.
The US airline is running the services from Glasgow Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport. The first flight landed in Scotland on Saturday morning.
The summer service will run until September and is the first time United has operated at Glasgow since 2019.
The flight will be operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with a total of 166 seats.
The flights will depart at 2pm from Glasgow, and return flights from Newark will arrive at around 10am.
United already operates daily year-round flights from Edinburgh to New York/Newark, doubling from once to twice daily during the peak summer season.
The airline also operates services to Washington DC and Chicago from Edinburgh.
Kam Jandu, the CEO of AGS Airports which owns Glasgow Airport, said it was the return of one of its “most popular long-haul routes”.
United Airlines’ director of sales in UK and Ireland said: “We are excited to return to Glasgow with the launch of our service to Newark/New York, further underlining the importance of Scotland within United’s global route network.”
Leader of Glasgow City Council Susan Aitken said it was “excellent news” for visitors and business travellers on both sides of the Atlantic.
”The United States is one of our most important international markets, and this new direct service will make it even easier for people to visit Glasgow, do business here, and experience everything our city and wider region have to offer,” she said.
