A van driver is accused of killing a man amid claims he did not put his handbrake on properly.
Joseph Gorman allegedly hit Craig Wilson, two women and a dog on the A726 Glasgow Road in Strathaven, Lanarkshire, on April 1, 2023.
The charge includes claims that the 49-year-old did not maintain control of the vehicle, causing it to veer across the road.
It is further said that Gorman failed to negotiate a bend and then mounted the pavement.
Prosecutors state he collided with Mr Wilson, 29, and the other pedestrians.
The indictment then alleges Gorman stopped his van, got out, but that he did “fail to apply the handbrake properly”.
It is said the vehicle continued to travel and smacked into a telephone pole.
Prosecutors further state Mr Wilson was so badly hurt that he passed away.
One of the women was also said to have been seriously injured, and the dog also died.
The case called for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.
Lawyers for Gorman, also of Strathaven, pled not guilty on his behalf to the charge of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.
A trial was set, and it is scheduled to start in October 2026.
After his death, a family member paid tribute to Mr Wilson online, stating “how much he lived life to the fullest”.
