A driver has been fined after using sticky tape to secure furniture in a van while driving on the motorway.

Police pulled the van over in Dumfries and Galloway after a member of the public called the emergency services to report concerns.

Officers managed to track down the van, which was found to have a broken roller door.

The driver had used sticky tape to “secure the load” instead.

The vehicle had to be escorted off the motorway and banned from moving until the load was secured appropriately.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Road Policing officers stopped this vehicle on the motorway, after a member of the public phoned in with concerns about the safety of the load.

“The driver failed to comprehend the potential danger to other road users by only using sticky tape to secure his load of furniture due to the roller door not functioning.

“The vehicle was escorted off the motorway, prohibited from moving until the load was secured appropriately and the driver issued with a Fixed Penalty ticket.”
