A violent sex attacker who raped a woman having tied her up has been jailed for seven years.
David Colquhoun turned on his victim after she initially agreed to sexual activity at a house in Renfrew on April 25, 2023.
She then withdrew consent, but the 45-year-old refused to stop even silencing her cries for help.
Colquhoun was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow as a judge told him: “Society will not tolerate abuse of women in this way.”
He had earlier been convicted after a trial in Paisley of abduction, assaulting and raping the woman to her injury.
Prosecutors stated Colquhoun had repeatedly turned down his victim’s desperate pleas to be freed from restraints tying her to bed.
He was said to have “detained her against her will” before then assaulting her.
Colquhoun shoved an item in mouth to keep her quiet during the sex attack. She lost two teeth as a result of the horror ordeal.
Sentencing, Judge Sheena Fraser told him: “Your victim had agreed to engage in sexual activity with you, but withdrew that consent, which she is entitled to do, when your actions caused her pain.
“You refused to stop, you refused to loosen the bonds that tied her despite her repeated requests.
“This must have been a terrifying experience for the victim. Our society will not tolerate abuse of women in this way.
“It is clear that it has caused significant psychological harm to her.”
Colquhoun – who already had a criminal past – will be supervised for a further three years on his release.
The court heard he continues to protest his innocence.
