Walker dies after going missing overnight on Scottish mountain

A man reported missing by his family after he failed to return from a mountain walk has been found dead.

The 33-year-old was discovered in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park at around 4.15pm on Thursday, April 1, after a search by mountain rescue teams.

The man’s family had reported him missing earlier in the day after he did not return home from a hill-walk overnight.

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team (Lomond MRT) searched Ben Venue while Killin Mountain Rescue Team searched Ben A’an.

Police Scotland was also assisted by a force helicopter and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

A spokesperson for Killin Mountain Rescue Team said: “Yesterday, we were asked to search Ben A’an and assist our colleagues [at] Lomond MRT who were searching Ben Venue.

“Unfortunately this did not have a positive outcome and our thoughts are with the walker’s family and friends at this sad time.”

A Lomond MRT spokesperson said: “All at Lomond MRT would like to offer our most sincere condolences to both friends and family.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.15pm on Thursday, 1 April, 2021, the body of a 33-year-old man was discovered on Ben A’an in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

“He had been reported missing earlier in the day after he didn’t return home from a hill-walk. His family is aware.

“Officers were assisted by the force helicopter, Lomond MRT, Killin Mountain Rescue and the Coastguard in the search.

“There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
