Police have issued a warning over a roadside scam involving “well dressed” conmen driving luxury cars with German licence plates.

Investigating officers are appealing for information following a number of complaints in Dumfries and Galloway and Cumbria.

Motorists have reported of being flagged down by men and pestered for money amid claims they have run out of fuel.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “They will ask for cash, or money to be transferred into an account.

“The males are said to be well dressed, very convincing and persistent.

“They will sometimes stand in front of cars to make them stop or prevent them from moving off.”

If you see such suspicious behaviour, do not engage with them and instead call 101 or 999 in an emergency.
