Watch moment dad rams into son at family car wash over 'cheating' allegations

Kamil Nadir drove at his son while he was working at the family's business, crushing him against a wall.

A dad who ran over his son amid a family feud has been jailed for six years.

Kamil Nadir, 55, rammed into his son at The Local Car Wash in Dalmuir on July 22, 2021.

It came after Nadir was accused of being with another woman.

Nadir struck the victim while he was washing a car at the family business, crushing him against a brick wall.

Five other men – including three of Nadir’s other sons – rushed to their brother’s aid and punched their father.

A jury found Nadir guilty of assaulting his son to the danger of his life following a three-day trial, having initially been charged with attempted murder.

Judge Scott Pattison said: “Your offending was serious – you put your son’s life at risk by using your vehicle as a weapon.

“It is only by good fortune that his injuries were not much more serious – your culpability is high.

“There was a degree of pre-planning and I have seen from the video that you appear to be waiting for your son to appear.

“The harm caused here was not significant in terms of physical injury sustained.

“However, that’s largely due to the matter of chance.

“It is clear that custody is appropriate given the seriousness of your offending.”

A court was previously told the victim screamed at his father: “You tried to kill me over a woman”.

The spat began after Nadir and his wife separated, and Nadir accused his son of telling his siblings he had seen their dad with another woman.

In the hours following the attack, the victim told police: “My father said my brother said I’d seen my dad with another woman.

“I said I did not say that. I said I had seen him with someone, that’s all.”

However, the accusation seemingly angered Nadir, who had gone to the car wash that day to confront his sons, screaming: “I will kill you all.”

Reading the victim’s police statement from three years ago, prosecutor Donald Davidson said: “I would say that my dad was trying to kill me.

“He drove the car straight at me, and he hit me with it. If he was trying to scare me, he would have stopped the car, but he didn’t.”

However, in the witness stand the victim, accompanied by an interpreter, denied giving police that statement and saying his English would not be good enough to “say those words”.

He said: “This is not my statement. These are not my words.”

He said he couldn’t remember anything about the incident and said he loved his father, asking the court if he could approach him in the dock and “kiss his hand”.

The Kamil family hail from Iraq and have been living in Scotland for more than 20 years with Nadir, a Kurdish resistance leader, first seeking asylum in 1999 after being forced to flee Iraq under Saddam Hussein’s regime.

His wife and then-young children followed in 2005 and settled in Glasgow.
