A soft play in South Lanarkshire has been closed for inspection after a child was taken to hospital after falling 7ft from equipment.
Wee Play House in East Kilbride confirmed that a boy fell from play equipment while at the venue on February 1.
An ambulance was called to the soft play around 11am and the child was taken to Wishaw General Hospital as a “precaution”.
Soft play bosses have taken the decision to close to allow for their equipment to be examined by officials and have said they will not reopen until they give their approval.
Posting on social media, Wee Play House said: “We have received a number of direct messages and are aware of several social media posts regarding an incident on February 1. We can confirm that a little boy was taken to hospital as a precaution, after it was reported that he fell approximately 7ft from play equipment.
“We have not heard from the child’s family directly, but we understand that he is well, based on information received from the medical professionals who attended.
“We fully appreciate concerns around safety and, as a family run business, we would like to reassure all our customers that the safety of your children is paramount to us. With this in mind, we closed the soft play and have organised for the official UK body for examining, accrediting, and certificating inflatable, indoor and outdoor play to visit us and examine our equipment. We will only reopen on their approval and will provide an update on this when we are able.
“We have not been approached for accident reports related to any other alleged incident.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance service said: “We received a call on Thursday at 11am to attend an incident in East Kilbride.
“We dispatched a paramedic response unit and one ambulance to the scene. We transported one child patient to Wishaw General Hospital.”
A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council, said: “After being made aware of the incident by Police Scotland, Environmental Health Officers visited the premises where an assessment of soft play equipment was carried out.
“This resulted in a Prohibition Notice being served on the use of the equipment pending a detailed inspection. This process is ongoing. In the meantime, we continue to liaise with the business to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.”
