A landslip in Dumfries and Galloway forced the West Coat Mainline to close.

The track between Carstairs and Lockerbie has been shut in both directions due to the incident near Beattock on Friday.

Network Rail has confirmed that specialist geotechnical engineers have been dispatched to the scene.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain in the impacted region between 6am and 6pm on Friday and stated that disruption to rail travel was possible.

A Network Rail post read: “We’ve had to close the West Coast Main Line between Carstairs and Lockerbie, due to reports of a possible landslip near Beattock.

“Our engineers are heading to site now to assess any damage caused, and repairs needed.”
