A woman is in a “serious” condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Greenock.

Officers were called around 12.50am on Sunday to Wellington Street following a crash involving a 29-year-old woman and a grey Volkswagen Polo.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

The road was closed to allow for investigations to be carried out and reopened around 6am.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and I’d ask anyone who saw what happened or has any information to come forward.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to any drivers who were in the area around the time and may have dashcam footage which has captured something of significance.”
