Woman, 72, in life-threatening condition after two-car crash on A73

A woman is in a life-threatening condition following a two-car crash on A73.

Emergency services were called to the road near Thankerton around 1.40pm on Thursday following the crash involving a blue Honda CR-V and a white Volkswagen Golf.

A 72-year-old was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff described her condition as life-threatening.

The 72-year-old male driver of the Honda was taken to hospital as a precaution and later discharged.

The 34-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen was treated at the scene. He was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and released pending further enquiries.

The road was closed for around ten hours for crash investigation work and reopened around 11.30pm.

Sergeant Gary Stewart said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch.

“If you were driving in the area around the time of the crash, please check any dash-cam footage that you have and contact us if you have captured something that could assist with our investigation.”
