Adobe StockA woman caused £20,000 of damage to a wine bar with a hammer in a case of mistaken identity.
Margarita Rollo, 35, smashed up The Mystery Cheese & Wine Bar in Glasgow city centre in the early hours of January 13, 2026.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how a witness was woken up after the sound of banging and then glass smashing after an hour.
A 999 call was made and police found Rollo in possession of a red hammer which she put on the ground.
Officers saw several windows broken and arrested Rollo.
She said: “I broke the windows and went through the window and smashed the place up.”
The court was told that there was “extensive damage” to the premises which included to the fixtures and fittings, windows as well as a glass panel.
There was also damage to bottles in the gantry area, appliances in the kitchen and a gaming machine. Glass was seen across the floor.
Rollo was taken to hospital due to cuts to her arms from the incident.
Prosecutor Bobby Ray said the value of the damage to the premises was £20,000.
Rollo, of the city’s Woodlands, pleaded guilty to destroying or damaging property without a reasonable excuse.
Sheriff Andrew McIntyre referenced Rollo’s background report.
He asked: “There was some grievance with a premises but not these premises. She smashed up the wrong premises?”
Mark Chambers, defending, replied: “Yes…this was unusual because she had never been in trouble before.”
The sheriff ordered Rollo to do 300 hours of unpaid work.
He told her: “This was a terrible amount of damage and there are victims in this.
“They had nothing to do with you and didn’t deserve it to be brought upon them.”
