Woman charged amid police warning following ‘sheep worrying incident’

A woman has been charged following a sheep worrying incident in East Dunbartonshire.

Police confirmed that a 38-year-old dog-owner has been charged and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The force was made aware of the incident at around 10.30am on December 12, in the Milngavie area.

Police warned dog-owners that if their pet attacks or chases livestock they could face prosecution under the Dogs (Protection of Livestock)(Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2021.

Owners were reminded that it is their responsibility to keep dogs under control and on a lead when walking near livestock.

Inspector Alan Ferris said: “Around 10.30am on Tuesday, December 12, we were made aware of a sheep worrying incident in the Milngavie area.

“Subsequent investigation has led to a 38-year-old woman being charged on Friday, December 15 in connection with this incident.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Owners have a responsibility to ensure that their dogs are kept under control by keeping them on a lead when walking near any livestock as well as ensuring they are not able to run or escape into fields on their own.

“If an owners dog attacks or chases livestock they could face prosecution under The Dogs (Protection of Livestock)(Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2021.”
