A woman has died after plunging from a block of flats in North Ayrshire hours after police had found her “safe and well”.
The 45-year-old fell from a window on Warrix Avenue in Irvine just before 1pm on Thursday. She was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she died.
Police Scotland confirmed its officers had visited the address at around 10.10am to confirm her whereabouts.
But officers were again called to the address at 12.55pm to reports of the woman plunging from the block of flats.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10am on Thursday police were called to assist a partner agency with confirming the whereabouts of a woman in the area of Warrix Avenue, Irvine.
“Following enquiries she was traced safe and well at home.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson later added: “Around 12.55pm on Thursday police were called to a report of a woman having fallen from the window of a property in Warrix Avenue, Irvine.
“Emergency services attended and a 45-year-old woman was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she later died.
“Her next of kin are aware and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
“Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1500 of Thursday, February 1.”
