A woman has died at the scene after being struck by an Audi in Airdrie.
Emergency services were called around 6.35pm on Tuesday to a crash involving a blue Audi A3 and a female pedestrian on Varnsdorf Way.
The 45-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family are aware.
The 23-year-old male driver was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiry.
The road was closed to allow enquiries to be carried out and reopened around 1am on Wednesday.
Sergeant Elaine Scott said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died as a result of this crash.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us.”
