A woman has been left fighting for her life after being struck by a car whilst crossing a road in North Ayrshire.

The 56-year-old was struck by a Ford Fiesta car whilst crossing Lauchlan Way, in Kilwinning, at around 7pm on Wednesday.

She was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where medical staff have described her condition as critical.

The driver of the car was not injured.

Enquiries remain ongoing and officers are looking to trace a car which was heading east at the time of the crash.

Road policing sergeant Kenny Malaney said: “Our enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing.

“Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to police to get in touch. Lauchlan Way is a busy road and there would have been a number of people and vehicles in the area at the time.

“We are particularly keen to trace the driver of a car which was heading east at the time and may have information which could assist our enquiries.”

Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 3140 of Wednesday, March 13, 2024, when calling.
