A woman is in serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car on a major road in Glasgow.

Road policing officers closed part of Great Western Road for four hours from 11am on Wednesday following the crash involving a blue Toyota Auris and 78-year-old woman.

Traffic was diverted away from the area while an initial investigation took place.

The woman was later was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Her condition is described as serious but stable.

Police constable David Caldwell of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our enquiries into the crash are ongoing.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road re-opened around 3pm. I want to thank members of the public for their patience while we investigated this serious collision.

“Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0991 of Wednesday, November 15.”
