A knife-wielding woman tried to murder her own sister by stabbing her 23 times after smashing through a bedroom door in Glasgow.
Carla McGhee, from Maryhill, instructed a child to hand her a knife as she knocked the door off its hinges to reach her terrified victim who had barricaded herself and others inside with a wardrobe.
The 31-year-old mother of three stabbed a kitchen knife through the door as she shouted “I’m going to f***** kill yous” before repeatedly throwing herself against it until it buckled.
Carla’s younger sister Shannon McGhee, who has been left permanently scarred, was left in a coma after suffering several stab wounds to her head, neck, back and hands during the incident that took place in the city’s Gorbals area last September.
She later needed surgery for a bowel injury as well as a blood transfusion.
Prosecutor Duncan McPhie told the High Court in Glasgow that she would have died without urgent medical intervention.
McGhee then attacked a police officer after being arrested as her sister was rushed to hospital.
The court heard that she “lost the plot” after being told her clothes were being taken for evidence at Cathcart police station.
She repeatedly punched the officer on the face and pulled a clump of hair from her.
The attack was done with such force that the woman has been left with “some permanent hair loss”.
McGhee is now behind bars after pleading guilty to attempt murder.
She also admitted to assaulting the police worker to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
Lord Beckett deferred sentencing until next month.
