A youth has been charged in connection with assault after footage emerged on social media of a cyclist being knocked off his bike in Stranraer.

In a video widely shared on social media, the cyclist was seen being knocked off his bike on Commerce Road in the town on Monday.

The cyclist, wearing white and red and a helmet, is approached from the left by another cyclist in black and a helmet, who crosses his path, resulting in a crash. He is then knocked to the ground.

The clip is filmed from behind by another cyclist, with the pair appearing to continue on after the incident.

Police Scotland has confirmed a male youth has been charged in connection with assault.

A spokesperson said: “A male youth has been charged in connection with assault after a man was pushed off his bike in Commerce Road, Stranraer, on Monday.

“A report will be submitted to the relevant authorities.”

Locals have launched a fundraiser to support the cyclist in getting a new bike and safety equipment.

He is described as a “kind, gentle soul who wouldn’t hurt a fly”.

A post read: “Let’s show him the whole of Stranraer is behind him. Let’s help get him safety equipment and cameras so he feels safe to be able to get back on his bike.”
